Getaround
From couch-surfing to Craigslist, sharing is coming back in a big way. But what about that two ton hunk of steel that sits in our garage most of the day? One company is saying when it comes to cars, sharing is caring.
The winner of this year's TechCrunch Disrupt, Getaround, is a social car sharing service that makes it super easy to rent out your set of wheels on an hourly basis. Picture running your own little ZipCar. There's no need to exchange keys since Getaround's nifty carkit lets renters open doors via iPhone, and insurance is totally taken care of.
Service is currently available in San Diego and the Bay Area, but there are plans to expand nationally soon. The web is redefining our sense of community as we realize life can be better when we consume together. Mom would be proud.
